Life Reflections

On Thursday, 20, 2017 MARIAN CLARK GUNTER was called home to be with the Lord.   The Lord took her quietly in her sleep to be with Him and her loved ones.

Marian Clark Gunter was born on October 04, 1939 in Lincolnton, Georgia to the late Roosevelt & Lounnise Clark.  She was the first of four children, 3 girls and 1 boy from this union.  Marian accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was baptized at a young age.

Marian received public education through the Pickens County school system from Clearview High School in Easley, South Carolina.  She continued her education to receive an associate degree in Business Administration.

Roosevelt & Lounnise Clark moved their family from Lincolnton, Georgia to Anderson, South Carolina.  Eventually the family established their permanent residence in Pickens, South Carolina.  In 1969, Marian married her late husband Levi Gunter Jr. from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  From this union came one son, Levi Randolph Gunter, & one daughter, Shikkea Lounnise Gunter.  In addition to raising their two children from the union, they also raised their older children, Raymond Alvin Clark & Donna Simone Gunter Jones.

Marian first joined Mount Zion Baptist Church of Philadelphia under Senior Pastor Rev. Harold Dean Trulear in 1985. She was an active member of Mt. Zion, and served in the October Club and Out Reach Feeding Ministry.

Marian started her career in the school district of Easley, South Carolina at Clearview High School as the school secretary.  After Marian’s migration to Philadelphia she held many jobs ranging from working as a bank clerk, United States Postal Service clerk and the Philadelphia School District where she retired as head secretary at Benjamin Franklin High School.

Marian was a social easy going person with a warm heart and kind spirit to all that she met. She had a quiet and gentle essence outwardly, but loved and protected her family with ferocity in a feisty but temperate manner.   She had a special way to make each of her loved ones, family and friends, feel that they had a unique special bond.

Marian enjoyed caring and nurturing her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, crossword puzzles and reading the Bible.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Lounnise Clark, brother, Gene Autry Clark; sister, Earnestine Fleming; and granddaughter, Akeeta Hallums-Belton.  She leaves to cherish loving memories to: son, Raymond Alvin Clark; step-daughter, Donna Jones; son Levi Randolph Gunter; daughter, Shikkea Lounnise Gunter; son-in-law, Jesse Jones; daughter-in-law, Eleanor Gunter; 2 sisters, Anna Ruth Clark; sister Fannie Noble, 3 granddaughters, Alicia Hallums, Lounnise and LaTrice Clark; grandson, Marcus Clark, 3 great granddaughters, Daija and Hallie Hallums, Addison Clark; 2 great grandsons, Ziondre Clark, and Jevon Belton; God-daughter Rhonda Coleman Ross along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
